2 Main Types Of Displays For Digital Readout Systems

The basic functioning of digital readout systems was explored in a previous blog. Its classifications have also been explored, namely, magnetic encoders, optical encoders, absolute encoders, incremental encoders and so on. But what is the next step after selecting the right DRO unit? The next part of the process is selecting the appropriate display for the digital readout system. Two main types of displays are addressed in this blog.

Choosing Display For DRO Systems

Menu System

This is a more cost-effective display that is suitable for most digital readout systems. It comprises a small display and keypads, making it compact and streamlined. However, the limited number of controls proves to be detrimental in some cases. For complicated functions, operators have to resort to memorizing complicated commands. Therefore, while it might be economical from a manufacturing standpoint, it requires more skill from the operator.

Hard-Key System

The hard-key system is quite different from the drill-down system used in the display mentioned above. It uses a dedicated button system to easily access a particular application or function. However, since it has a lot more buttons than the menu system, the hard-key system is more complicated to manufacture and, as such, is more expensive. That being said, the investment pays off in the long run as it becomes easy to operate and doesn’t require extensive training.

In the end, choosing the right display depends on the application and the budget of the manufacturer. For better use and operation, the hard-key system is ideal. However, if budget constraint is a major factor, the drill down system used in the first display is also effective, provided the operator is skilled enough.
